A versatile talent, David Orr has enjoyed a variety of creative opportunities in the industry.  David graduated with a B.A. in communications/theatre from Mississippi State University and began his career as an actor before branching into writing, directing and producing. 

After early success writing and directing the play "The Dust Behind the Door," David wrote, directed and produced two film shorts, THE BUM and WHAT MAGIC SLEPT, before directing and producing his first feature film, BLOSSOM TIME, starring Laurel Holloman.  BLOSSOM TIME  world-premiered at the Slamdance Film Festival and went on to win several awards on the festival circuit, including the Audience Award Best Feature Film at the Florida Film Festival.  In 2001, David enjoyed another successful run on the festival circuit with his satirical short film THE GRIMM CYCLE.

David has worked on numerous film productions, handling positions on all ends of the budget spectrum, from the guerilla pictures of Roger Corman to assisting A-list producers on studio pictures such as JERRY MAGUIRE, AS GOOD AS IT GETS, POWDER, ANYWHERE BUT HERE, SIMON BIRCH, THE OBJECT OF MY AFFECTION, DEEP RISING, ROMY AND MICHELE'S HIGH SCHOOL REUNION, TOM AND HUCK and OLIVER TWIST (TV). 

David’s extensive behind-the-scenes experience includes stints in executive chairs at major studios.  David is past vice president of production and marketing for Debmar-Mercury, the distribution entity recently acquired by Lionsgate, and past creative coordinator for television and home video for Miramax Films and Dimension Films.

David has written numerous screenplays.  He occasionally accepts writing assignments offered by the industry and provides professional criticism for Creative Screenwriting magazine.  Currently, David is in the financing stages for his next big movie and is attached to several projects in development.
